FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) Aaron Shoemaker, 36, presumably stole a piece of heavy equipment and started driving it along the Richardson Highway. During the event, Shoemaker published images of his actions on the Facebook page for his chiropractic practice.
According to Alaska State Troopers, Shoemaker was arrested after he was discovered in a dumpster. AST found the abandoned compacter stuck in the mud near a pond. Shoemaker was required to Fairbanks Correctional Center and charged with vehicle theft in the very first degree and criminal mischief in the very first degree.
Shoemaker, the sole chiropractic doctor at Advanced Chiropractic in Fairbanks, had been publishing cryptic messages on his services Facebook page in the days leading up to the incident.
Alaska State Trooper Barry Cebulski said that he couldn't speak with any type of disability, but did state there was something triggering some sort of imbalance which it is probably safe to say that was not the method he typically acts. Cebulski said that anyone who presumes a liked one might be handling mental, compound or health issues should seek aid before police needs to be included.
“Waiting until the last minute to where it's now a police specific problem that could have been prevented, our preference is for it to be dealt with by the family to connect to among those regional resources.” Cebulski stated.
He said there is help available from locations like the Behavioral Health Center and Adult Protective Services. He included that even if somebody can't think of who to call, they can call the Troopers who can send them in the best direction.
Cebulski likewise motivated anyone who is dealing with their own psychological health problems to connect for help.
